Batana + Castor Oil Pre-Shampoo Treatment (Recipe & Ratio)
Castor oil is famously thick and sticky - hard to spread and harder to rinse. Blending it 50/50 with batana adds slip so it actually glides through hair. Here's the pre-shampoo recipe.
You'll need
- • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) batana oil
- • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) castor oil
Ratio: 50/50 - equal parts batana oil and castor oil
How often
once a week as a pre-wash
Method
- 1 Mix equal parts batana and castor oil and warm the blend slightly so it flows.
- 2 On dry hair, apply from the ends up through the mid-lengths, then a little onto the scalp.
- 3 Massage in and leave for at least 30 minutes - castor is thick and sticky, so it needs the time.
- 4 Shampoo twice to fully rinse the castor out, then condition as usual.

Frequently asked questions
Why mix castor oil with batana oil?
Castor oil on its own is thick and tacky and drags through hair. Batana thins it and adds slip, so the blend spreads evenly and is far easier to work with.
How do I wash castor oil out of my hair?
Shampoo twice. Castor is heavy, so a single wash often leaves residue - a second lather clears it, then condition as normal.
How long should I leave the pre-shampoo treatment on?
At least 30 minutes. Castor works slowly and needs time, but you don't need to leave a castor blend on overnight.
